Short story The Fault in Modern Times

I am Luke. I live in a different world from the one about a week ago. NASA cut off all electricity, taking with it every bit of technology.
I’ve tried everything, everything in my power, but nothing worked, nothing has yet been able to surpass technology, to entertain me, to keep me away from my lonely thoughts.
Last dinner, my family and I were discussing this crazy and unbelievable NASA thing when my grandfather barged in, claiming he had a room full of something called “books” that belonged to his ancestors. My grandfather explained me the concept of “books”, that is a part of someone’s brain being exposed in paper, and I found it beautiful and although I’ve never had contact with one, the only thing I wished for, in that moment, was to touch one and run my eyes through it.
So here I am, sitting down while the sun hits the book, lighting it up, and I finally let my fingers reach its cover, being “The Fault in Our Stars”  the words imprinted on it.
I’ve spent hours in this world full of words that touch my heart and bring me peace and love like I’ve never experienced before. I feel weird, for the first time ever I feel the love that everyone talks about.
I put the book down, reluctantly, I didn’t want to exit this beautiful and tragic world. A single book gave me in some hours something technology had never been able to give me for this entire time.
I look out the window, my eyes full of this emotion, just as this boy appears in my sight. He has the most beautiful brown hair, kissed by the sun. The prettiest face I’ve ever seen, and his eyes…oh his eyes, they stare back at me, their honey colour reaching me and my heart.
For the first time ever I fell in love.

Short Story A new and harder life

I was at home in Bremen, Germany, a dictatorial country, when all my family was surprised by five men. They took all of our technological devices, such as mobile phones, TV, microwaves and they even cut our light off! It happened to everyone we knew around, so we couldn’t know about the other people from other cities.
In the next morning my father ran home and brought a newspaper. There it was written the reason why it happened: the dictator took technology away from us. He did it so we won’t keep in touch with the whole world and he can control us. He cut off the electricity just for revenge because we had tried to make Germany free again, three weeks ago.
Now everything’s so boring, we don’t know what’s happening in the world anymore, we don’t know how our families are, we only can read or write, we can go outside only between 7am and 10pm, because if we get caught earlier or later, we’ll be punished!! If you want to talk with someone, you have to go and search for them, but if that person lives too far away you can write. NEVERTHELESS, BE CAREFUL, because the dictator will know what was written there!
Everything’s worse and worse, so different, and we’re sad not only because we have lost those things, but because we have lost our touch with the entire world and that’s completely weird, that’s so hard and everything’s so incomplete.
Well, that’s the tenth letter I’m writing since it happened, a week ago, and I hope no one finds it, otherwise, wish me good luck!!

SHORT STORY – The Big Change

This story happens in New York city, in 2060, in a completely new world.
The group of hackers “Anonymous” had created a virus that caused the destruction of all gadgets like tablets, smart phones and computers. Now the society has been adapting itself to the change.
This is a little bit of my story and how I have been adapting myself to this change. My name is John Baptist and I’m a 58 year-old- man. I must admit, I wasn’t hoping this for my future. This isn’t the way I expected life would be.
Now kids play in the streets, people interact a lot with each other and I think: “What happened to the world?”. When I look at the way my childhood was in 2015 and I compare it to the way kids live nowadays, I must admit that these kids are lucky, because they weren’t infected by the tech disease. Kids now play free, with no fears, they feel safer because they are less exposed and they love face to face conversations and appreciate and give much value to the moments with other persons, which didn’t happen so often in 2017.
Somehow I think the way I live now is much better but there is something that I see a little wrong, which is the education system without the use of gadgets because (the thing that I see in my children) sometimes gadgets would help a lot on research and group works.
In my early 15, I couldn’t imagine a world without any gadgets and I thought it would be the collapse of economy and society but now my point of view has changed and I love the way society has evolved.

Textos Vencedores do “Concurso Literário Bepamf 2009/ 2010"

Recalco pensamentos e ideias

Lembro-me do suave toque, do cheiro viciante.

Contudo, a insuportável dor que me causa, enfraquece-me.

Agora respiro fundo, e levanto-me.

Escrever faz-me bem

Não gosto de escrever;
Aquilo que escrevo
É um modo de esquecer;
Tudo o que detesto

Escrevo sobre amizades,
Sentimentos,
Falsidades
E arrependimentos

Escrevo sobre racismo,
Porque apenas num papel rasurado
Posso escrever o que penso
Sobre quem é criticado...

Escrevo, porque me faz sentir bem...
Escrevo, porque numa simples folha de papel...
Posso criticar, ofender,
Pois ninguém irá ver

Não gosto de escrever,
Mas escrever faz-me bem;
Tento fazê-lo
Sem magoar ninguém!
